 | Native Mixed Hedging Packs (Bare Root)
Our recommended mix for native hedging is 50% Hawthorn or Blackthorn (choose Blackthorn for heavy soils or coastal/windy positions and Hawthorn for all others) with 10% each of Wild Cherry, Field Maple, Dog Rose, Hazel (pictured left to right above) and either Hawthorn or Blackthorn (the opposite to the main component). These species have been selected to provide a long period of interest for humans (in flower, berries, leaf colour, leaf shape) as well as varying wildlife foods and shelter. The packs shown in this section are bare root plants available November to March (or you can pre-order in the summer at last season's prices for delivery in the following November). We also have these species as cell grown plants or pot grown available all summer - and suitable for planting in all but the hottest/driest weather.
You can add species to the standard mix, or swap species, or change the proportions. We're happy to accommodate your own "pick and mix" selections which in previous years has been very popular with customers looking for 100% flowering hedges, or high security prickly hedging or an economy mix. The standard mix is heavily discounted but we can still give good discounts on your own selections.
Planting distances are very much a matter of choice - 3 plants per metre is adequate, 5 is good, 7 in a double staggered row will give a dense hedge quicker. Generally, smaller plants should be planted at higher density.
For quantities between 500 and 1000 plants, (ie if you dont want exactly 500 or 1000), please call us to place your order. For larger quantities, please call for a personalised quote on 01257 451449.
