 | Native Mixed Hedging Packs (Bare Root)
Our recommended mix for native hedging is 50% Hawthorn or Blackthorn (choose Blackthorn for heavy soils or coastal/windy positions and Hawthorn for all others) with 10% each of Bird Cherry, Field Maple, Dog Rose, Hazel (pictured left to right above) and either Hawthorn or Blackthorn (the opposite to the main component). These species have been selected to provide a long period of interest for humans (in flower, berries, leaf colour, leaf shape) as well as varying wildlife foods and shelter.
These are our standard mixes and we have built discounts into the prices shown below but you can also "pick and mix" your own selection and we will discount orders over £350 (bare roots only) (please call 01772 603300 or email helpdesk@hedgesdirect.co.uk
Planting distances are very much a matter of choice - 3 plants per metre is adequate, 5 is good, 7 in a double staggered row will give a dense hedge quicker. Generally, smaller plants should be planted at higher density.
In the season, we despatch plants above 90cm weekly - orders received by Thursday evening are despatched the following Tuesday or Wednesday. Smaller plants are despatched daily Monday to Thursday.
