Fresh Pleached Tree Information

The term 'pleached' refers to trees that are trained to form a screen of branches and foliage with a single straight stem. Planted in rows at set distances, pleached trees will form an elevated 'green wall' that can be ideal as a green alternative to high fencing. Pleached trees are often used to screen unsightly buildings and can be grown above an existing wall or fence. Used in this way pleached trees can extend the height of a privacy screen to 3 metres or more. Rows of pleached trees are also an effective way of creating a shaded area for warmer months.

Fresh pleached trees are the younger version of a mature pleached tree meaning that there is much less growth development on the head framework. This particular tree uses a metal head framework for for the screen giving increased stability, longevity and resistance to the elements. We supply fresh pleached trees as a cost-effective alternative to the mature pleached. However, your fresh pleached tree will still develop into the same quality and fullness of tree as a mature specimen.

Species Information

Ilex Mutch. Nellie R. Stevens is a variety of Ilex Cornuta and English Holly, and as such much of the same qualities of our Ilex Aquifolium hedging species. As you may expect, the evergreen foliage is a glossy dark green with spiked edges, although the spikey natures is less pronounced than with a full English Holly.

A slow growing species, Ilex Mutch. Nellie R. Stevens gains fairly insignificant white/green flowers which turn to a great number of bright red berries around mid-November for that classic holly look throughout the festive season, which birds and wildlife love.

This hybrid Holly should be planted in a fairly sheltered area in any sun position, in well-draining soil. To maintain a pleached appearance, trimming only needs to take place once a year, moving to twice a year once more established.

Once an order has been placed, we will contact you to arrange delivery. Delivery of all pleached trees is via a large truck due to their size, shape and weight. They will be able to advise on lorry type, access required and lifting equipment needed to help unload the trees. Free delivery is applicable on orders over £1500. Otherwise a £450 delivery charge applies.

Please note: We recommend that any moving or lifting equipment such as a forklift, is booked for a full day not part day, as we cannot guarantee what time the trees will arrive on site on the day of delivery.

Free delivery is available on most orders (except Premium Products) providing they meet the minimum spend criteria for the size of box or pallet. (Please note that due to new Brexit rules, we are currently unable to export to both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.).

Delivery Time - Please note that delivery times are currently 2-7 days excluding bank holidays. *Some troughs, trees and premium products may take up to 14 days delivery. We are working through existing orders as quickly as possible to deliver new orders within this timescale.

It's Convenient - no need to wait in all day to sign, we don't need a signature (the odd, larger order may require a signature but will be delivered at a mutually agreeable time).

Nominated Day Delivery

Choose a delivery day that suits you with our new Nominated Day Delivery option at checkout. Whilst our standard no signature delivery means you don't need to take time away from other committments to receive your order, we understand that there are times our customers want to make sure they are present to accept delivery, either to plant straight away or to store somewhere safe and out of the way until you're ready to plant.

For an additional fee, you can make sure that your order arrives on the exact day you want it. Please note that this is additional charge to all qualifying orders, including those above the free delivery threshold for Standard Delivery.

Our Nominated Day Delivery is available year-round on the weekdays Tuesdays to Fridays, excluding the day after any bank holiday.

Some products are sent direct from our suppliers and as such are not available for Nominated Day Delivery. These include:
