Osmanthus Burkwoodii
Osmanthus is a lovely dense dark green evergreen hedging plant with the bonus of fragrant jasmine-like flowers in April and May. Like many white flowering plants, the fragrance carries a good distance, particularly in the evening so this is an ideal hedge to plant near the house/patio. If you trim the hedge after flowering, it will increase the flowering for the following year. It is durable, hardy and tough, likes any soil type but must have moist soil and should not be exposed to strong north or east winds which can damage the leaves. Its leaves are finely toothed - but not prickly, its growth rate is average and it will grow (in good conditions) to approx 3m height.
