Bay Laurel Hedge Plants Description
The Bay Laurel hedge is popular for its leaves that are commonly used during cooking, either dried or fresh from the garden. It will fill your garden with scent, as well as bringing privacy to your outdoor space throughout the year. You can find more herbaceous hedging in our edible hedging department.
Laurus nobilis prefers fertile, moist soil due to its Mediterranean heritage, flourishes in the sun and is resilient against droughts, but it should ideally be grown in a sheltered area to protect its delicate stem during the winter.
A slow-growing hedge, Bay Laurel will typically grow around 10-20cm per year and is easily maintained at 1-2m. It is a low-maintenance hedging plant, only requiring a light trim in summer to help it keep its shape.
If you are interested in filling your garden with fragrant Bay Laurel hedging plants, Hedges Direct has a range of other wonderfully scented fragrant hedging plants for you to browse.
Laurus nobilis is also a popular choice as a Topiary Standard, featuring a long stem and a round, leafy head, sometimes described as lollipop topiary.
