When considering garden or privacy screening, hedge screening make a fantastic alternative to traditional garden fencing and has many benefits which is making it increasingly popular. Hedging screens, provide a more attractive alternative to a fence whilst bringing your garden to life. There are different species of hedging screens available all of which have their own unique attributes, however they share the same common benefits of privacy, security and saving on space, making them the ideal 'green' option where space is at a premium.
Aside from being intruder-proof and providing privacy, hedging screens can cover up unsightly walls, partition or frame areas within a garden or outdoor space or act as an attractive boundary to homes and businesses. Environmentally, the benefits of living screens over fences are that they also attract wildlife and are proven to reduce harmful air toxins in the vicinity, making them an excellent choice in urban or heavily trafficked areas.
Hedges Direct’s hedging screens are grown on galvanised steel frames using several plants in each trough to create full coverage of the framework. They are lightweight, simple and easy to install and make cost-effective, low maintenance, sustainable fences. Living screens have grown in popularity for both commercial applications and residential alike.
Lying somewhere between our Hedging Screens and Pleached Trees, our Trellis Grown Screening can be great alternative if you're wanting to mix and match the features of both of these. Trellis Grown Screening is grown on a framework in a similar way to pleached trees, but with foliage cover all the way from the ground level like Hedging Screens or Trough Grown Instant Hedging.
By using either a wooden or metal trellis framework, these container grown plants are a mixture of climbing varieties such as Star Jasmine, which are trained on the framework for a more manageable and upright plant, or compact varieties of Photinia or Oleaster, which can grow into a taller and thicker screening cover much quicker than similar species used as hedging. For these and other species of Trellis Grown Screening, the support of the framework allows the plant to grow tall and wide without needing the depth of an Instant Trough Grown hedge, making them ideal for planting situations where space or time is at a premium.
We have a variety of species available, both traditional hedging species and newer varieties too.
