Red Flowering Escallonia Hedge Plants Description

Escallonia Red is suitable for most soils and situations and is particularly well suited to coastal situations but is not shade tolerant and does not like extremely cold positions. It is relatively fast growing at approx 30/45cm p.a. It should be pruned for shape after flowering. We have numerous varieties available.

See our ultimate Escallonia hedging guide for more information.

These plants are available all year round. Also see our range of pink flowering Escallonia and our white Escallonia range. View also our entire range of flowering hedge plants and our hedging for exposed sites.

Our Escallonia plants are a popular evergreen option. You can include this species within a feature full of additional evergreen hedging plants, creating the ultimate focal point as it will bring even more colour, shape and texture to a certain area of a garden.

You’ll see our recommended planting densities for each size and root type listed next to the products below. We suggest that you use these as a guide, taking into consideration how long you’re willing to wait to see your finished hedge. As a rough indication bare roots can be planted at anything from 3 to 7 per metre and cell grown between 4 and 6 - the higher densities here would need to be planted in a double staggered row or zig-zag.

For more information on planting distances please see our planting density advice section. Prices shown are the price per plant unless otherwise stated.

Pruning Advice

Escallonia Red

General hedge trimming should be done immediately after flowering. Escallonia will also benefit from a harder prune in early Spring (April-May).
