Potentilla 'Abbotswood' Hedge Plants Description
White Potentilla is a hardy and bushy deciduous shrub that benefits from a long flowering period from late spring throughout summer and into early autumn. The simple five-petalled flowers are a soft white and sit prettily above the foliage. Potentilla 'Abbotswood' is an excellent choice for informal, low hedging growing to around 75cm in height but easily maintained around 50cm.
Potentilla 'Abbotswood' tends to thrive in moist soil and although reasonably rich soil is preferred, they will tolerate poor soil as well. Being very durable plants, they will tolerate drought, flood, and extreme cold and will therefore thrive in seaside locations, making it a great hedging for exposed sites. White Potentilla do well in both sun and all but the densest areas of shade.
We have a collection of other flowering shrubs in our flowering hedging area. We also have Pink, Orange & Yellow flowering varieties of Potentilla, either as alternatives or to combine with.
You can view our full range of plants suited to similar heights in our low growing hedging plants section.
Potentilla 'Abbotswood' plants are available all year round.

Pruning Advice
It is important to prune at the right time, so as not to remove new growing shoots. Ideally, prune in the Autumn once flowering has occurred, cutting out all the old branches at ground level. Remove shoots that have flowered to within 1.5-2.5cm (¾-1in) of the previous year's growth.
To encourage optimal growth and flowering the following yearr, the plant benefits from an annual mulch or fertiliser trowelled into the soil.
