Sunburst Cherry Fruit Tree 125/150cm 10L Pot Prunus avium 'Sunburst'
In stock
Prunus avium 'Sunburst'
The Sunburst cherry tree (Prunus avium 'Sunburst') is a remarkable cultivar notable for its self-fertility, meaning it does not require a pollinator to produce fruit. This variety stands out as the first sweet black cherry that can be grown independently, making it an ideal choice for small gardens or single-tree plantings.
The Sunburst cherry produces large, dark red to almost black cherries that are juicy and boast a rich, sweet flavour with a hint of raspberry. These cherries are known for their excellent taste and heavy cropping. The tree ripens in early July, slightly earlier than the Stella cherry. The fruits can be stored well for a short period after picking.
Similar to the Stella cherry tree, the Sunburst has a manageable growth habit, making it easy to care for in garden settings. It also features attractive rosy unripe fruits that mature to a deep, almost black hue. In spring, the tree is adorned with pretty white blossoms, and in autumn, the foliage turns an attractive colour, adding ornamental value to gardens.
One of the key advantages of the Sunburst cherry tree is its good resistance to fruit splitting, ensuring a higher yield of these delicious cherries.
The Sunburst cherry was developed by the same research team that created the Stella cherry, the first self-fertile dark red cherry. However, Sunburst surpasses Stella in many aspects, including fruit colour and quality. The Sunburst variety is well-suited for garden culture due to its ornamental appeal and the superior quality of its luscious black fruits.
In summary, the Sunburst cherry tree is an exceptional choice for both ornamental and fruit-bearing purposes, combining beauty, practicality, and deliciously sweet cherries that are perfect for any garden.
