Photinia x fraseri 'Red Robin'

The Photinia Red Robin hedge (or Photinia fraseri ‘Red Robin’ if you’re feeling fancy) is known for its scarlet-red new growth, which matures to a deep, glossy green foliage as winter approaches. This vibrant contrast brings colour and visual appeal to your garden throughout the year, with an added flourish in springtime when clusters of delicate white flowers appear and attract pollinators like bees and butterflies. These flowers are sometimes followed by small red berries in autumn, which are well-loved by birds and wildlife but are toxic to humans.

While not a particularly dense hedge, this striking evergreen species produces larger leaves, making it ideal for privacy screening. Beyond its bold appearance, Photinia Red Robin is also relatively fast-growing — producing up to 40cm each year — which helps shield your outdoor spaces from oncoming wind. This hardy hedge thrives in well-drained soil and is drought-tolerant once established, perfect for gardens with full sun and partial shade. With its low-maintenance nature, Photinia fraseri hedging only requires occasional pruning to encourage fresh red growth and keep the hedge looking its best.

Photinia Red Robin hedge plants are available as pot-grown or instant hedging year-round, making it easy to create flourishing borders whenever they’re needed.
