Bramleys Seedling Apple Tree 125/175cm 10L Pot Malus domestica 'Bramley's Seedling'
In stock
Malus domestica 'Bramley's Seedling'
The Bramley Seedling apple tree is renowned for producing the UK’s most popular cooking apples. These apples are notably large and have a distinctive flat-bottomed shape, often exhibiting a rusty-coloured, striped flush. The flesh of the Bramley apple is creamy white and exceptionally acidic, containing about 2.5 times more vitamin C (ascorbic acid) than the average apple. This high acidity gives the Bramley its characteristic sharp flavour, which mellows with storage, transforming into an almost tart dessert apple by spring.
Freshly picked Bramley apples are excellent for juicing, particularly when blended with sweeter varieties in a 70% Bramley to 30% sweet apple ratio, resulting in a delightful apple juice. They are also a popular addition to many ciders. When cooked, Bramley apples bake into a deliciously light, fluffy, syrup-infused purée, with a mouth-wateringly tangy and fruity flavour that is perfect for pies, crumbles, and tarts.
Bramley Seedling apple trees are vigorous and heavy cropping, with fruits ready to be picked in early October. They are partial tip bearers, meaning they require minimal pruning, primarily to maintain an open structure and to remove dead wood. While they are not self-fertile and thus require a pollinator, their robust growth and heavy yields make them a popular choice for orchards and home gardens alike. This award-winning tree is a triploid variety, known for its large, juicy apples that store exceptionally well. Once harvested in the autumn, Bramley apples can last well into the winter, maintaining their quality and flavour, which further enhances their appeal as a reliable and versatile cooking apple.
