Description

Dwarf Lavender ‘Little Lady’ (Lavandula angustifolia ‘Little Lady’) is a charming lavender shrub variety that’s perfect for patio container planting and creating vibrant borders around small gardens. Known for its subtle fragrance and beautiful pale purple flowers, this dwarf cultivar brings the same allure as Lavender Hidcote but in a more compact package.

‘Little Lady’ puts on up to  20-40cm each year and is best suited to a height of 0.2-0.5m, making it an excellent choice for low hedges or ground cover that won’t overwhelm your space. It flowers abundantly in early to mid-summer, attracting bees and butterflies with its nectar-rich blooms. Despite its petite size, ‘Little Lady’ is robust and able to withstand both drought and frost, making it a durable addition to any garden setting. Discover more drought-tolerant hedging species here.

This variety thrives best in full sun and prefers well-drained soil, typical of any Mediterranean plant. Its neat and tidy growth requires minimal effort to maintain, ideal for novice gardeners or those with limited gardening time.

Pot-grown Dwarf Lavender plants are available from March, offering a quick and easy way to incorporate this delightful plant into your outdoor spaces. For more detailed planting instructions, visit our comprehensive lavender care guide.

Dwarf Lavender Hedge Plants Description Dwarf Lavender is a compact yet impressively fragrant, low-growing lavender, perfect for garden borders, pathways or rockeries. With piercing purple-blue hued flowers, this hardy, semi-evergreen Lavender variety pairs well with other larger Lavender varieties, such as English Lavender, Lavender 'Hidcote', White Lavender, or French Lavender. Additionally we now stock a series of specially selected Lavender Collections within our Garden plants range featuring several English and French Lavender varieties plus a special mixed variety pack. Why not mix your Dwarf Lavender plants with other flowering shrubs and scented hedging for a fragrant and visually stunning hedging? Dwarf Lavender is low-growing and best suited to a height of less than 50cm. Dwarf Lavender plants have an average growth rate and can be expected to achieve 20-40cm per year. Lavandula angustifolia 'Little Lady' prefers a sunny, sheltered site and grows best in normal, well-drained soils, but take care not to over-water. Dwarf Lavender is available to purchase year round as pot grown plants. We are happy to do a discounted pallet deal of mixed Lavenders - please phone to specify how you'd like them to be mixed. Is Dwarf Lavender Evergreen? All lavender varieties are technically classed as evergreen, as in warmer climates they retain their grey-green foliage year round. However, the cooler UK climate means Lavender starts to lose its flowers in August and plants go into dormancy from early autumn until late spring. During dormancy the foliage turns brown and twiggy, appearing to die back. This is perfectly normal and as the weather warms in late spring, your Lavender plant will once again become green with new shoots.

Pruning Advice

Dwarf Lavender ‘Little Lady’ is a slightly more fragile species that benefits from light pruning each year to maintain its shape and promote healthy blooms. The best time for this is in late summer, ideally at the end of August after the main flowering period has ended.

Trimming should be light, removing only the spent flowers and about 2-3cm of the current year’s growth to let more light peek through. Avoid cutting into the old wood, as this can damage the plant and cause it to not flower properly the following year.
