Berberis x stenophylla Hedging Plants Description

Berberis x stenophylla Hedging Plants Description Other evergreen varieties of Barberry include Berberis darwinii and Berberis julianae. Evergreen Barberry has small dark green leathery leaves held on graceful arching branches. In spring, the fragrant cup shaped yellow flowers smother the stems and in autumn there are plentiful blue/black berries, which are attractive to birds. Serious thorns and a dense habit make it a useful roosting, hiding and nesting place. It is best in sun, but is shade tolerant, and grows well in all soils and situations (including coastal) other than very wet and windy sites. See also our range of alternative hedging for exposed sites. Trim to shape after flowering or leave to grow for a more natural appearance. Having small foliage, it can be trimmed to certain shapes and being immune to the worrying Box blight, you will find this species within our Box Hedging Alternatives. Here at Hedges Direct we have a great range of Berberis plants; you can find more information on the different varieties we stock in our Berberis Hedging Guide If Berberis stenophylla isn't what you are looking for and you would like further advice in order to decide which the right hedge is for you, call the team, who will be happy to advise you.

Choose Berberis Evergreen Hedge root types

What are root types?

x

Root types explained.

  • Bare root

Field grown, bare roots are young plants that are only planted when they are dormant, from autumn to spring. We lift bare root plants and despatch them during the season but they can be pre-ordered in summer. As they are cheaper to grow, they are one of our most affordable hedge planting options.

  • Pot grown

Pot grown plants can be planted year round and make a convenient option. They come in a wide range of sizes, from 10cm to 2.5m so they're suitable for the majority of planting requirements.

  • Root ball

Also field grown, root ball plants are scooped out of the ground using machinery to keep their root system intact and wrapped in bio-degradable, hessian sacks. They are mature plants that provide dense coverage very early on, ideal for when you need a thick hedge quickly.

  • Instant

Grown in troughs or bags that measure 50cm-1 metre in length and carefully clipped during the growing season. Our instant hedging troughs create a dramatic, instant hedge effect.
