Pink Potentilla Hedge Plants Description
The hardy Pink Potentilla is perfect for gardens where minimal maintenance is required and provides an excellent choice for low growing informal hedging.
Preferring moist and reasonably rich soil but able to adapt to most soils and conditions, its highly durable nature and ability to tolerate drought, flood and extreme cold or windy conditions means that it is one of the few hedges that will thrive in a coastal location, making it a great hedging for exposed sites.
This pretty, deciduous shrub benefits from a long flowering season from Spring through to Autumn providing lasting blooms of colour in the form of small, delicate, soft pink flowers. We also have Yellow, Orange & White flowering varieties of Potentilla, either as alternatives or to combine with. Alternatively, we also have a variety of other flower shapes and colours in our flowering hedging area.
These plants are available all year round.
If planted in a sunny spot, flowering will be prolific although the plant will grow and flower in all light conditions except deep shade. Youll see our recommended planting densities for each size and root type listed next to each plant in the table. We suggest that you use these as a guide, taking into consideration how long youre willing to wait to see your finished hedge.
For more information on planting distances please see our planting density advice section
Once established, Potentilla are compact plants requiring little by way of care or maintenance other than a quick trim to keep to the desired shape and height, growing to a maximum of 1.5m but easy to keep under 1m. It is important to prune at the right time, so as not to remove new growing shoots. Potentilla Pink should be pruned at the end of the flowering season cutting out all the old branches at ground level. Remove shoots that have flowered to within 1.5-2.5cm (¾-1in) of the previous year's growth.
To encourage optimal growth and flowering for the year after, the plant benefits from an annual mulch or fertiliser trowelled into the soil.
