Orange Potentilla Hedge Plants Description
With a very long flowering period from late Spring throughout Summer and into early Autumn, this beautifully bright Orange Potentilla variety is excellent for informal low hedging.
We also have Pink, Yellow & White flowering varieties of Potentilla, either as alternatives or to combine with. Alternatively, you can find other colours and flower styles amongst our flowering hedging.
Orange Potentilla thrives in moist soil and although they prefer reasonably rich soil they will tolerate poor soil as well. They are very durable plants and will tolerate drought, flood, and extreme cold and will therefore thrive in seaside locations, making it a great hedging for exposed sites.
They do well in both sun and all but the most dense shade. They are deciduous and will grow to approx 1.5m maximum height but are also very easy to keep at under 1m. These plants are available all year round.
See also our range of low growing hedging plants.
If planted in a sunny spot, this hedging plant will flower prolifically, although it will also grow and flower in all light conditions except deep shade. Youll see our recommended planting densities for each size and root type listed on the page. We suggest that you use these as a guide, taking into consideration how long youre willing to wait to see your finished hedge.
For more information on planting distances please see our planting density advice section
Once established, Orange Potentilla are compact plants requiring little by way of care or maintenance other than a quick trim to keep to the desired shape and height, growing to a maximum of 1.5m but easy to keep under 1m.
It is important to prune Orange Potentilla at the right time, so as not to remove new growing shoots. The plant should be pruned at the end of the flowering season cutting out all the old branches at ground level. Remove shoots that have flowered to within 1.5-2.5cm (¾-1in) of the previous year's growth.
An additional step to encourage optimal growth and flowering for the year after, is to put down an annual mulch or fertiliser trowelled into the soil from which the plant will definitely benefit.
