Hebe 'Red Edge' Hedge Plants Description

Hebe Red Edge prefers to be neatened up into a series of mounds or a rounded hedge rather than have hard edges imposed on it. It flowers profusely with long tapered flower spikes, from late Summer, throughout autumn and often into early Winter.

Some varieties grow to about 1.3m in ideal conditions, but often about 1m and the smaller varieties even less so it's good for low hedging.

It is an evergreen species and very good at the coast as it is salt tolerant. It prefers a sunny situation and moist well drained soil and benefits from being protected from fierce winter winds. It is quick growing so it quickly reaches its maximum height and then becomes very low maintenance.

Further Information

For more information on planting distances please see our planting density advice section. As a general pointer, smaller pots such as 2L pots can be planted anything from 2 up to 6 plants per metre (if planting in double staggered rows), dependant on the density of hedge desired and time you want to wait for fullness to be achieved.

Pruning Advice
Pruning Advice

Hebe Red Edge should be pruned in the growing season - or right at the end of the winter dormancy period. They should not be pruned in late Autumn - nor winter months.
