Our Ornamental Grass Collection consists of a selection of popular ornamental grass plants. Each pack of 6 x 2L pots will be made up from a selection of the following species:

  • Deschampsia Goldtau
  • Stipa tenuissima Pony Tails
  • Carex pendula
  • Calamagrostis Karl Foerster
  • Carex oshimensis Evergold
  • Carex Ice Dance

These lovely ornamental grasses all have unique characteristics with a range of colours, heights, textures and structure to add a dynamic planting option to the garden. Grasses can be planted together for a unique and interesting planting scheme or dotted amongst other plants and shrubs to provide a lovely contrast and so complement their attributes.

Grasses are extremely versatile plants. They are particularly effective at creating movement, adding subtle softness and gentle waves in the breeze which can provide a relaxing, calming space. They can even be used as the focal point for a design in the case of the taller varieties such as Stipa gigantea. Smaller grasses look particularly lovely along path edges or borders and in gravel gardens to soften hard lines.

Grasses can also be used to great effect around water features to blend edges, helping them to sit naturally in their surroundings. However, some are shown to best effect and grow well in containers, providing an appealing alternative to everyday container shrubs and plants.

Most grasses are exceptionally easy to grow and low maintenance needing only minimal attention by way of pruning or trimming, species dependent. They tend to prefer well-drained, fertile soils as long as the soil is not too heavy and will grow best in full sun or very partial shade but not full shade. As most of these varieties are cool season varieties, they can be propagated in late winter or early spring by lifting and dividing them, should you wish to increase your grasses stock.
