Monterey cypress 'Goldcrest' Hedge Plants Description

This very popular conifer has bright lime/yellow foliage and an upright narrow shape. In summer, its foliage is lemon scented particularly when cut or brushed. Its quite vigorous, growing by 30-60cm pa and will grow up to 5m in height but is happy to be kept lower. It is good in any free draining soil in sun or partial shade and well suited to coastal positions.

For more information on planting distances please see our planting density advice section. As a general rule, small pots such as 2L pots can be planted anything from 2 up to about 6 per metre (if planting in a double staggered row) whereas larger pots will require a smaller number per metre due to their increased size, usually 2 - 4 per metre.
