Description
Buddleja davidii 'Pink Delight' is a butterfly bush that is extremely eye-catching due to the intense, bright-pink colour of the flower panicles and the sheer size of them - up to 30cm long! It adds a bold statement to any garden and its airy structure with arching branches and long, lane-like silvery-green leaves is as attractive, adding a lovely relaxed and natural feel to the garden planting. As with any butterfly bush, it is of course a magnet for all pollinating insects but particularly butterflies, drawn to its heady fragrance and abundant flowers.
Buddleja 'Pink Delight' loves a sunny position and well-drained soil, even tolerating poor soil. Give it that and it's happy! It doesn't need a lot of fuss and is drought tolerant when established too.
A fast-growing deciduous shrub, Buddleja 'Pink Delight' will grow to about 6ft tall and wide easily, so needs a decent amount of space in order to thrive and provide the best display. If left, it can grow much larger, to as much as 4m! However, if pruned hard annually in spring, cutting it right back to a low framework of woody stems, this will encourage strong new shoots and the best flower display, whilst also keeping it a more manageable size. Tip: don't over-feed this plant as it will get too leafy and produce fewer blooms.
