Product Details

From early summer, award-winning Hydrangea arborescens 'Annabelle' is awash with majestically large, spherical, snowy-white heads of flowers that reach up to 30cms across - much larger than other Hydrangea species. The beautiful flowers emerge as lime-green buds, developing into creamy-white flowers which take on a lime tint in autumn before becoming dried brown seed heads. The remaining seed heads are an attractive feature through the winter months. Alternatively, the large rounded flowerheads can be cut for fresh or dried arrangements.

This stunning deciduous shrub has heart-shaped bright green bushy foliage which contrasts perfectly with the striking flowers. Growing to a height and spread of 1.5-2.5 metres, Hydrangea 'Annabelle' is a mid-sized shrub but with large summer flowering making it an excellent choice to plant as part of a flower or shrub border. Hydrangea 'Annabelle' can also grown into a hedge due to the fact that it can be cut back in winter so will remain tidy.

Hydrangea 'Annabelle' requires moist but well-drained, neutral-acidic soil and prefers a position in full sun or partial shade. This hardy shrub can be grown in all UK weather climates however it is advised that you grow your shrub against a wall or in a sheltered corner to protect the buds from late frosts.

A vigorous bloomer that flowers on new wood, you can prune back your Hydrangea 'Annabelle' quite hard in early spring to encourage new shoots and better flower production in the summer. A hard prune can also help to keep this shrub more compact if your garden is smaller. It's worth remembering however, that the large flowers require strong stems. A light trim will encourage stronger stem development which may be beneficial in the first couple of years.

If you are looking to form a hedge from Hydrangea 'Annabelle' we would recommend planting around 1m apart.

Please note that Hydrangea 'Annabelle' is considered toxic for cats and dogs if ingested. We do not recommend planting this variety around household pets.
