Spiraea nipponica 'Snowmound' is also known as Tosea spiraea 'Snowmound'. This small to mid-sized spreading deciduous shrub has and deep-green rounded foliage on elegant arching branches. From late spring, generous clusters of small white flowers on short stems dress the long stems in abundance, giving it the appearance of being laden with snow, hence its name. The flowers of Spiraea 'Snowmound' are highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects making it popular with gardeners and wildlife enthusiasts alike.

Spiraea 'Snowmound' is a stunning addition to a mixed shrub border and if planted in multiples can even form an informal flowering hedge for added versatility. It is a fairly vigorous shrub however it remains a reasonable size only growing to around 1.5-2m height and spread making it a pretty addition to small to medium sized gardens.

Plant Spiraea 'Snowmound' in a sunny or partially shaded location and any fertile well-drained soil. It doesn't need much maintenance as its informal habit lends itself to being left to grow naturally. However, being a spreading shrub, it can become a little leggy. A general trim to tidy if needed, can be carried out after flowering, not before. If leggy and in need of renovating, a hard prune can also be carried out at this time, however you may not see productive blooming the following year.
