Description
Elaeagnus 'Viveleg' is a new variety of Oleaster. The foliage is variegated and alternates between deep-green in the centre and lime-green to golden-yellow on the outer margins. As with other Oleaster varieties, the leaves are speckled and leathery with paler, silvery undersides and in autumn, tiny white fragrant blooms are sometimes seen which can be followed by small golden, edible fruits.
Elaeagnus 'Viveleg' is evergreen and bushy yet compact and tends to grow more upright that outwards. It is a very hardy plant growing well in most locations, even coastal, and will tolerate extremes of weather making it suitable for exposed locations also. Plant in moist, well-drained soil that isn't overly wet and in a sunny or semi-shaded location.
Growing to around 2.5m in height and spread, Elaeagnus 'Viveleg' is a medium sized shrub, however its compact growth makes it ideal for mixed shrub beds or borders in small to mid sized gardens. Being evergreen and colourful, it is also ideal a standalone specimen shrub. Due to its compact shape, it needs very little maintenance other than tidying up of any dead, damaged or diseased shoots which could inhibit normal growth.
