Description
Achillea 'Lilac Beauty' is also known commonly as Yarrow 'Lilac Beauty'. It is a mat-forming perennial displaying flattened clusters of warm, lilac-purple flowers in summer which gradually fade with age to a more lavender shade. The lilac of the flowers contrasts prettily with the green fern-like leaves.
Recipient of the RHS Award of Plants for Pollinators, Achillea 'Lilac Beauty' flowers from May through to September and is adored by pollinating insects who use the flattened flowerheads to indulge in nectar and pollen but also to land and rest on. The seed heads also provide food for birds.
This winter-hardy perennial is ideal planted mid-border, growing to around 80cm height by 50cm spread. It is even suitable for large pots or containers and looks good planted with flower spire perennials such as Salvia or Lupins.
Plant Achillea 'Lilac Beauty' in full sun in well-drained soil. It will not tolerate wet conditions so do ensure the soil is free draining and add grit if necessary. Cut back to the ground or remove any untidy foliage in early spring and deadhead spent blooms to encourage further flowering.
