Description
Unlike its rounder-leaved cousins, Sarcococca saligna, common name Willow-leaf Sweet Box, has long, slender evergreen leaves that give it a more refined, upright look. In mid to late winter, it delights with tiny creamy-white flowers that release a rich, sweet scent – a lovely bonus when little else is in bloom.
It’s brilliant for hedging or evergreen structure in semi-shady spots and works well in smaller spaces thanks to its slim form. Low maintenance and hardy, it provides interest all year and a welcome burst of fragrance when it’s needed most.
Plant your Sarcococca saligna in partial to full shade for ideal growing conditions. It also will be ok in sunshine if the soil is damp and will grow in any type of soil as long as it's moist and free-draining. With a moderate growth rate and upright form, it grows to 1-1.5m tall and 1m wide.
This lovely, versatile shrub needs little pruning – just shape after flowering if needed and mulch annually to help retain moisture.
Supplied in a 9cm pot for planting at any time of the year.
