Pruning Advice
Weigela ‘Kosteriana Variegata’ will need little maintenance other than regular watering until established. After a few seasons, it is worth doing a hard prune of the old wood to encourage fresh new shoots to grow. This should be done immediately after flowering.
A good layer of mulch around the base of the plant will help to protect the roots from very hot or very cold conditions.

Weigela 'Kosteriana Variegata' 10L Pot Weigela 'Kosteriana Variegata'
In stock
Weigela florida 'Kosteriana Variegata is a fabulous variegated flowering shrub that is exceptionally popular due to its ease of growth and adaptability to most situations. The ovate foliage is dark green with a creamy-green irregular margin whilst the pale pink trumpet-shaped flowers which adorn the graceful arching branches in abundance in late spring and early summer, offer a rich source of nectar to bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects.
Growing to around 2m height and spread, Weigela florida 'Kosteri Variegata' is a medium sized shrub with lots of colour and charm and makes a very attractive border shrub.
Weigela florida 'Kosteriana Variegata' is exceptionally easy to grow and will grow in most positions and locations including shade. However, it prefers sun or dappled shade for the best colour, and moist, well-drained soil. Trimming is best carried out after flowering at which point cut back the flowering stems to a healthy bud, even down to around a third of the stem.
We'd also recommend cutting at least a fifth of the older stems down to ground level each year which will continually rejuvenate the plant. This will encourage fresh new shoots and branches to grow, in order to keep a bushy, healthy and productive plant as Weigela looks its best on younger stems. Mulch annually with rotted manure or compost in spring.
