Skimmia japonica rubella
Skimmia's long, deep green leaves are beautifully contrasted with its clusters of small, red buds throughout the winter, bringing a splash of colour and life into your garden. In spring, they bloom into masses of pretty, ivory flowers with vibrant pink-red stems.
Wonderfully low-maintenance, Skimmia is best suited to moist but well-drained soil and partial shade, but also grows well in full shade. It's a little sensitive to light, so if possible, keep it out of the full sun, as this can cause the leaves to turn yellow.
Skimmia will need to be watered well when first planted and during the first year of growth, but after this it only needs watering in prolonged periods of dry weather. The plants also benefit from mulch and feed in the spring, to keep them in optimum health.
Skimmia is available to buy all year round. We also have a huge range of plants in our Evergreen section that offer year-round interest.
