Ribes rubrum 'Rovada'
Rovada redcurrants are widely regarded as the finest variety of redcurrant available today, earning the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit. These bushes are noted for their exceptional fruit quality, with berries arranged in long strings, facilitating easy picking. The yields are remarkably high, with each bush capable of producing up to 10 kilograms of fruit. The redcurrants themselves are outstandingly tasty and distinctly redcurrant in flavour. Rovada redcurrant bushes bear fruit late in the season, from mid-July well into August, making them an excellent choice for extending the harvest period.
If you have space for more than one redcurrant plant, consider starting your harvest season earlier by including the Junifer variety. All redcurrant plants benefit from ample space to thrive; Rovada bushes should be planted with a spacing of 140 cm within the row and 150 cm between rows. This late-flowering and late-fruiting Dutch-bred variety is known for its prolific cropping, producing large, luscious, translucent fruits that hang in long strings, making for easy picking.
