Ribes uva-crispa Hinnonmäki Röd
The Ribes uva-crispa 'Hinnomaki Red' is a hardy and vigorous mid-season gooseberry known for its flavourful red fruit. This Finnish variety is exceptionally easy to grow, producing large, reliable crops that are both sweet and slightly tangy. The berries are ideal for both fresh eating and cooking, and they freeze well. 'Hinnomaki Red' is a slow-growing bush with excellent disease resistance, particularly against mildew, making it suitable for many gardens.
This self-fertile gooseberry variety is planted 1.5 metres apart and typically yields between 2 to 3 kilograms of fruit per bush, with some reports of yields reaching up to 3.6 kilograms. The berries are large and ruby red, with a superb flavour superior to other varieties like 'Pax'. Harvesting occurs in July, and the bush’s vigorous growth ensures heavy crops season after season. The 'Hinnomaki Red' is highly recommended for its hardiness, productivity, and exceptional taste.
