What is a Fresh Pleached Tree?

The term 'pleached' refers to trees that are trained to form a screen of branches and foliage with a single straight stem. Planted in rows at set distances, pleached trees will form an elevated 'green wall' that can be ideal as a green alternative to high fencing. Pleached trees are often used to screen unsightly buildings and can be grown above an existing wall or fence. Used in this way pleached trees can extend the height of a privacy screen to 3 metres or more. Rows of pleached trees are also an effective way of creating a shaded area for those warmer months.

Fresh pleached trees are younger trees with less growth development on the cane head structure than fully mature versions. Being less mature, they are however more cost effective options yet will grow into beautiful mature specimens with full, thick screens. This particular tree has been pot grown and can therefore be planted year-round. The pot size is 25L.

Species Information

Photinia pleached trees are a popular evergreen and colourful variety of pleached, with a slightly less formal aesthetic. Photinia has large glossy green leaves with new growth emerging as a contrasting, stunning red, particularly in the spring and summer months.

Photinia 'Red Robin' has a less dense foliage than other pleached varieties offering a subtle screening option for both shade and privacy.Its structure allows for some movement in the breeze leading to dappled light and glimpses through the screen. Being evergreen, it offers foliage cover and colour all year round.
