Phormium 'Rainbow Queen' commonly known as New Zealand Flax 'Rainbow or Maori Queen' is an evergreen, clumping, half-hardy shrub. With arching, strappy, sword-shaped leaves, this medium sized phormium has green-bronze leaves with a pink margin. An ideal plant for creating height and structure in the garden and particularly attractive as a stunning and colourful centrepiece combined with other softer and contrasting planting.
During hot summers, this plant can produce an impressive flower spike of tubular red flowers, followed by seed heads.
This colourful shrub prefers a sunny, fairly sheltered location but will tolerate some partial shade. It grows best in moist, well-drained soil of most types and needs watering well in summer. Keep sheltered from cold drying winds.
It's suitable for either containers, borders or beds. It needs little maintenance other than removing any dead or damaged leaves in spring. An organic mulch will help stimulate new growth.
