Description
Philadelphus 'Snowbelle', commonly known as Mock Orange 'Snowbelle' is a delightful deciduous shrub that bears highly fragrant pure-white flowers each summer. The flowers are pretty double-blooms resembling mini roses, and drape over the dark-green foliage in generous clusters for a truly spectacular summer display. As the name Mock Orange suggests, the scent the flowers produce is very citrus-like, creating the most wonderful aroma!
This charming deciduous shrub likes a sunny or partially shaded position and will grow happily in any free-draining soil. It does need a sheltered spot too but our main advice is to plant it somewhere that you can enjoy the delicious scent it produces.
Philadelphus 'Snowbelle' is a more compact variety of Philadelphus and grows to around 1.2m in height and spread making is a suitable shrub for most gardens. Prune just after flowering by cutting back flowered stems to a healthy outward-facing bud, and remove one in four older stems at the base to encourage strong new growth and keep a good airflow around the plant which will discourage mildew from forming.
