Description
Nandina domestica 'Gulf Stream' is one of the most colourful varieties of Heavenly Bamboo with seasonal changes almost year round. In spring this compact, evergreen shrub has orange-bronze new growth which can turn green with age, but sometimes retains a reddish-orange colouration giving it a multitude of hues throughout spring and summer. In autumn into winter, the foliage becomes fiery red and gold. Whilst this isn't known as a flowering shrub, it can produce small, conical white flowers in summer which are followed on by red berries in autumn.
This upright, bushy shrub is generally free of both pests and diseases and is hardy and low maintenance, needing only a very light prune and tidy up in spring to remove any wayward shoots.
Nandina 'Gulf Stream' will thrive in full sun in a sheltered location and will grow in any moist, well-drained soil. It is drought tolerant once established and grows to just over 1m tall and 50cm-1m spread.
Supplied in a 5L pot, this shrub can be planted at any time of the year.
