Description

Astrantia (Masterwort) ‘Claret’ is a long-flowering, clump-forming perennial prized for its intricate, pincushion-like blooms that hover elegantly above mounds of deeply lobed, mid-green foliage. A favourite in cottage gardens and naturalistic planting schemes, it brings a refined yet romantic feel to partly shaded borders and woodland-style settings. It also makes an excellent cut flower, both fresh and dried, thanks to its long-lasting, richly coloured blooms.

‘Claret’ produces striking, rich claret-red, starry bracts surrounding a darker central pincushion, creating a beautifully detailed effect that draws the eye. Flowering generously from early summer and continuing well into late summer, it will often repeat into early autumn if regularly deadheaded, providing months of reliable colour. The blooms are highly attractive to bees and other pollinators, adding wildlife value as well as ornamental appeal.
