Ribes uva-crispa 'Invicta'
The Green Invicta Gooseberry is one of the most popular and easy-to-grow members of the gooseberry family. This vigorous variety is known for its large, pale green berries that are full of sweet flavour and have a smooth skin. It boasts almost double the crop yield of other varieties, making it a highly productive choice. The Gooseberry Invicta freezes well and can be enjoyed fresh off the bush. It is particularly ideal for cooking as it retains its freshness.
Reaching a size of 1 metre, the Invicta gooseberry bush produces large, green fruit that is best suited for cooking. When fully ripe, the berries have an aromatic and sweet taste. As one of the earliest cropping varieties, picking typically begins in late May and continues through June. The Invicta variety also holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit, underscoring its quality and performance.
Invicta gooseberries are sweet, with smooth skins and remain firm when cooked, making them excellent for culinary use. They also freeze well, allowing for long-term storage. Depending on your taste preferences, these berries can also be eaten raw. This variety is known for being one of the heaviest fruiting gooseberry bushes available, with a vigorous, spreading, and thorny growth habit that offers great disease resistance. Cropping starts early, at the end of May or the beginning of June, depending on location.
