Description

Goat Willow (Salix caprea) is a fast-growing native deciduous hedge plant, valued for its early spring catkins, vigorous growth, and excellent wildlife benefits. One of the earliest flowering native trees, it produces soft grey catkins in late winter to early spring, providing a vital early nectar source for bees and other pollinators.

With its dense, upright growth habit and large oval green leaves, Goat Willow is ideal for informal hedging, screening, windbreaks, woodland edges, and naturalistic planting schemes. Extremely hardy and tolerant of a wide range of soil types, including heavier and damp soils, it is a reliable choice for countryside and garden hedges alike.

Supplied as hedge plants, Goat Willow establishes quickly and can be maintained as a hedge or allowed to grow naturally as part of a mixed native boundary.
