Prunus laurocerasus 'Rotundifolia'

Although primarily known for its stunning, rich green foliage, Cherry Laurel hedging also produces delicate white flowers in the spring and festive red berries throughout the winter, adding year-round interest to your garden. Due to its density, Cherry Laurel is ideal as a privacy screen or to reduce noise and wind. Its adaptability and striking appearance make Cherry Laurel one of the most popular types of Laurel hedging.

Cherry Laurel hedging has a relatively fast growth rate of around 30 - 60cm per year, making it an economical way to achieve height. In fact, Cherry Laurel can easily grow to between 20 - 30ft high over time, but it is easy to maintain to a lower height. It is also resilient and grows well in most conditions, including in shaded areas, although it is not the most suitable choice for coastal gardens or alkaline soil. Just like most hedges in the Laurel family - other than Bay Laurel - the leaves and berries are harmful if consumed.

Cherry Laurel cell-grown and pot-grown plants are available all year round, whilst bare root Cherry Laurel hedging is available from November to early May, and root balls are available from mid-October to mid-April.

As well as the ever-popular Cherry Laurel hedging, Hedges Direct has a fantastic range of Laurel hedges including Portuguese Laurel, Spotted Laurel, Laurel Etna, Compact Laurel, Laurel Caucasica and Bay Laurel. If you'd like to find out more about Laurel hedging and which would be right for your garden, take a look at our helpful Laurel Hedging Guide.
