Description
Blue Fescue (Festuca ovina Glauca) is a striking ornamental grass ppopular for its icy-blue foliage and compact, tufted form. Its fine, spiky leaves form a dense, spherical clump that provides an eye-catching contrast against green-leaved plants and softens paths, borders or rockery edges with its unique colour and texture. In summer, it produces delicate, airy flower spikes that rise above the foliage, adding both height and movement.
To ensure the most vivid colour from your Blue Fescue, plant in a full sun position in any free-draining soil type except clay. This evergreen grass will add colour, texture and movement all year round and is unfussy on planting location.
Growing only to around 50cm height and spread, Festuca glauca is drought-tolerant and low-maintenance, needing only the occasion comb out of dead leaves in early spring and allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. It's perfect for contemporary garden designs, borders, or containers and offers year-round visual and architectural interest.
