This topiary dome is unusual not just for the size but the species too. Purple Beech also known as Copper Beech, although deciduous, offers almost year-round visual interest with the foliage changing colour from spring onwards culminating in a stunning autumnal display of deep, rich coppery tones. The russet spent leaves add another level of visual interest until replaced by new spring growth.Click here for more information.More Information

Topiary Domes have a more flattened rounded shape as opposed to the spherical shape of topiary balls and are some of the larger specimen topiary pieces available. With style to match their stature, topiary domes look elegantly attractive and add instant appeal to any garden, driveway, grounds or outdoor space.

Purple Beech is an ever popular hedging plant and makes an attractive topiary dome. Easily recognisable by its purple and green tones in the spring and summer, Purple Beech - also known as Copper Beech - turns striking copper and burgundy hues in the colder months. Although it is deciduous, Purple Beech will retain some of its beautiful autumnal foliage during the winter until the new spring growth emerges.

Topiary Domes look stunning planted into large containers, planted en masse, in rows or as a statement centrepiece combined with softer plants, such as grasses and perennials, to add a contrast in texture and form. For an alternative planting scheme, plant a topiary dome with other shapes and sizes of topiary to create a topiary 'cloud' garden that's sure to impress and delight for many years whilst adding style, character and general appeal to your home and garden.

Maintaining and caring for your Topiary

To keep a good shape and tight growth, topiary needs all-round and all-over light so it is incompatible with shade, although potted specimens can be rotated. Clipping should be done when the opportunity, inspiration, enthusiasm and weather all combine to make it possible. In the case of Beech, as it is deciduous, trimming should take place in late autumn or early winter when the plant is dormant. At this point it is easier to see the shaping and to cut back to the size and shape that is desired. Do not clip Beech topiary in spring as this can stunt the new growth. Always use very sharp tools to help cuts to heal quickly and feed or mulch in the early spring to encourage new growth.

All of our topiary is hardy and suitable to withstand all that our weather can throw at us but given the expense of each piece, it is our recommendation that you take particular care to protect topiary - just simple precautions like gently brushing snow off, using pointed rather than flat topped shapes where long periods of snow are normal, providing ventilated shelter from severe winds and ensuring that specimens are well watered in summer and sheltered from very strong sunshine which can burn as much as winter winds.
