These easy-to-grow, colourful, scented flowering plants are the most popular perennials in Britain. Equally pretty either planted into the garden where they can spread out and flourish in abundance, or planted in a container for a more compact yet beautiful flowering display, hardy geraniums are a versatile, visual feast during the summer months when in full bloom.
Being generally low-growing, hardy geraniums are the perfect plants for beds and borders but also as ground cover in rockeries or for planting under other taller shrubs as a contrasting and complementing feature. They are also very attractive to wildlife, particularly pollinators such as bees and butterflies which is a positive for most gardens!
Geraniums grow well in, and are adaptable to, most light and soil conditions. Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced fertiliser, watering well if the weather becomes hot and dry. Over winter, they will not require additional watering, preferring dry soil to wet. In terms of maintenance, simply remove any dead flower heads or old flowering stems. This in turn encourages vitality and production of leaves and blooms, so maximising the length of time you can enjoy these pretty perennials.
Being hardy, these particular geranium varieties have a good tolerance and lower susceptibility to pests and diseases.
