Product Details

Robinia 'Frisia' is popular for its beautiful pinnate foliage which emerges as a pure yellow in spring, becoming a fresh lime green in summer and a stunning golden yellow in autumn. In early summer, the tree bears clusters of small, white pea-like flowers which have a resemblence to the Acacia flower, hence its common name, the Yellow False Acacia Tree. The flowers then give way to brown seed pods which remain on the branches even after the leaves have fallen.

The Robinia pseudoacacia 'Frisia' will add an ever changing splash of bright colour to your garden to be enjoyed throughout the seasons.

Windy sites should be avoided when planting this stunning upright, medium sized ornamental tree. For best growth, plant in a sunny location in well-drained acidic soil, although this lovely tree will tolerate other soil types as long as they are free draining.

Planting Robinia pseudoacacia 'Frisia'
This tree is pot grown so can be planted all year-round. We recommend sprinkling Rootgrow when planting to enhance the growth quality.

When planting:
1. Dig a square hole as deep as your root mass and approximately 2x as wide
2. Mix 50% of the original soil with 50% compost
3. Remove the tree from the pot and gently loosen the soil around the roots.
4. Place the tree into the hole, fill it with your soil mix and firm around gently (avoid banking the collar of the tree)
5. It may be beneficial to plant this tree with a stake and tie kit for stability during its first couple of years

Aftercare:
It is advised to keep a close eye on your Robinia pseudoacacia as some are suffering from an unidentified disease that cause new leaves to not unfurl properly, and leaves are falling prematurely.

1. Remove weeds and grass around the area for the first couple years of the growing season.
2. When planting in spring and summer: water well for the first few months and increase watering if there are periods of hot or dry weather
3. When planting in autumn: you may only need to water a little
4. Use a rabbit guard if prone to rabbits in the area
5. It is recommended to plant this tree with a stake

Pruning:
Robinia 'Frisia' trees don't need a great deal of maintenance. Simply prune away any crossing, damaged or diseased branches to ensure good, healthy growth. Pruning is best carried out in late summer or early autumn as the tree tends to 'bleed' when trimmed. Pruning at this time will ensure that the plant has healed prior to any frosts. Be sure to wear protective gloves and long sleeved clothing when pruning this thorny tree.

Pruning time: Late summer / early autumn.
