Photinia 'Red Robin' is a dense, evergreen, hardy shrub with an erect habit and large glossy green elliptic leaves when mature but young shoots have the characteristic red colour from which its name derives.
It develops clusters of small white flowers in mid and late Spring, sometimes followed by red fruit, but it is the red spring foliage that sets this shrub apart, which turns a deeper russet colour as the year progresses.
Whilst Photinia 'Red Robin' isn't a shrub you'd immediately think of as a climbing plant, it does actually respond very well to clipping, and it's erect habit and natural framework of branches lends itself to growing on a trellis or other structure. Grown in this way, Photinia can create a colourful, glossy, evergreen ornamental screen and because it takes up little room laterally, it is actually suitable for smaller gardens and perfect for creating privacy.
Plant in full sun or partial shade and in fertile, hummus-rich soil. Photinia 'Red Robin' will grow well in any location. Being salt tolerant this shrub can also be grown in coastal locations.
This plant has been carefully nurtured and ready-trained onto a trellis framework to encourage upward growth and spread. Ready to plant and transition easily onto a larger trellis or screening frame.
