Photinia 'Louise McLarlou' is one of the most colourful forms of Photinia. It's a dense, evergreen, hardy shrub with an erect habit and large glossy leaves which as young shoots are variegated with red, olive green and a flush of pink at the margins. As the growth matures, the leaves become a grey-green with creamy margins, occasionally with a hint of pink.
In spring it develops small panicles of creamy-white flowers, sometimes followed by red berries. However, it is the highly colourful, variegated foliage which makes this particular Photinia variety extremely eye-catching and versatile, providing stunning year-round colour.
As per Photinia 'Red Robin', the 'Louise McLarlou' variety will also respond very well to clipping, and it's erect habit and natural framework of branches lends itself to growing on a trellis or other structure. Grown in this way, it creates a highly colourful, glossy, evergreen ornamental screen. Because it takes up little room laterally, it is actually suitable for smaller gardens and perfect for creating privacy.
Plant in full sun or partial shade and in fertile, hummus-rich soil. Will grow well in almost any location, sheltered or exposed.
