Japanese Privet Fresh Pleached Tree Information
Fresh Pleached Tree Information
The term 'pleached' refers to trees that are trained to form a screen of branches and foliage with a single straight stem. Planted in rows at set distances, pleached trees will form an elevated 'green wall' that can be ideal as a green alternative to high fencing. Pleached trees are often used to screen unsightly buildings and can be grown above an existing wall or fence. Used in this way pleached trees can extend the height of a privacy screen to 3 metres or more. Rows of pleached trees are also an effective way of creating a shaded area for warmer months.
Fresh pleached trees are the younger version of a mature pleached tree meaning that there is much less growth development on the cane structure. We supply fresh pleached trees as a cost-effective alternative to the mature pleached. However, your fresh pleached tree will still develop into the same quality and fullness of tree as a mature specimen.
Japanese Privet (Ligustrum japonica) is an evergreen variety of Privet native to Japan. Its deep-green glossy leaves are long and pointed and unlike common privet, it is much hardier, able to withstand harsher winters without leaf drop. In summer small white flowers bloom developing into dark coloured fruits later in the year.
Ligustrum japonica, being evergreen and with reasonably dense foliage when fully matured, is ideal for creating an effective privacy screen but is ultimately suited to a more sheltered location. It's also considered to be higher up the scale of trees efficient at carbon capture from the atmosphere over the lifetime of the tree. This means that it is an excellent choice of pleached tree for the more urban or semi-urban environment. It's also tolerant of most soil types as long as they are free-draining. We'd recommend trimming fairly regularly however, both to maintain a pleasing shape but also because it can become woody if left un-trimmed for too long.
Once an order has been placed, we will contact you to arrange delivery. Delivery of all pleached trees is via a large truck due to their size, shape and weight.
