Product Details

Hydrangea 'Mophead Blue' is an incredibly popular Hydrangea noted for its stunning dome-shaped clusters of vivid, electric-blue flowers which form superb, large blooms. This variety has been specially cultivated for intense colour and robust, attractive foliage with large serrated bright-green leaves that provide additional colour in autumn, taking on orange and red tones and extending seasonal interest.

Whilst Hydrangea 'Mophead Blue' is a compact but bushy, deciduous shrub, only growing to around 1m in height, its impact in the garden far exceeds its size and it makes a colourful and impressive focal point in beds and borders. It can also be container grown and positioned to enhance any outdoor space.

Hydrangea 'Mophead Blue' will do best in sun or partial shade and should be sheltered from cold, drying winds. The buds in particular are sensitive to cold so winter shelter or protection may be required. It will grow in any moist, well-drained soil however to keep the intense blue colour, the soil should be kept acidic. Aluminium salts applied to the soil in late winter or early spring can facilitate this and a good compost will aid healthy growth. Water your Hydrangea 'Mophead Blue' regularly in summer as this shrub needs lots of water, particularly so if container grown.

Hydrangeas need little maintenance and can be left to grow naturally, however to encourage increased flower production and vigorous growth, prune back in early spring. To strengthen the stems only trim back lightly to allow them to develop and increase support to the flowers.
