Product Details

Euonymus 'Alatus' is more commonly known as the 'Burning Bush' for the spectacular, intense pink and crimson tones that the leaves take on in autumn. This stunning shrub, originally native to Asia, is deciduous, bushy and slow-growing with green elliptical leaves. In produces small, light green flowers in spring and reddish-purple fruit pods in autumn which split apart to expose bright orange seeds - a favourite with birds, particularly over winter. Unusually, cork-like wings can also be seen sprouting form the bark in winter, reflecting its other common name of 'Winged Spindle'.

Euonymus 'Alataus' tends to grow outwards with a flatter crown. It is very hardy in the UK climate and will grow almost anywhere. It is the ideal specimen shrub and planting centrepiece or focal point because of its vivid autumn colour. Plant in a sunny or semi-shaded position to ensure the best leaf colouration and in any moist, well-drained soil.

With a height and spread of only around 2 x 3m, Euonymus 'Alatus' is suited to all but the smallest gardens. Being slow growing it needs little maintenance but any trimming to tidy the plant should be carried out in the dormant period in late winter or early spring. Simply cut out any diseased, damaged or crossing shoots to maintain an open branch framework.

Please note all parts can cause severe discomfort if eaten including for household pets.
