Acer palmatum 'Seiryu' is one of the 'Laceleaf' Japanese Maples with light green, dissected leaves with deeply incised lobes that turn a vivid crimson colour in the autumn with hints of orange and yellow also. Unusually for one of the 'dissectum' range which ordinarily have a more domed or weeping habit, Acer palmatum 'Seiryu' has an upright growth habit, only really rounding out at the top with age.
Japanese Maple 'Seiryu', is the perfect Acer to grow as a large shrub or a small tree and will do well in either a container or planted in the garden. It can make a very pretty focal point with its billowy foliage and would look extremely effective overlooking a reflecting pool or other water feature, creating stunning visuals. You might also consider it for a courtyard garden, cottage garden, rock garden or patio to bring a hint of the orient into your outdoor space.
Plant Acer palmatum 'Seiryu' in a sheltered location away from cold winds in a slightly shaded area, although this variety will tolerate some full soon too, but not midday. It prefers soil that is slightly on the acidic side but always moist, fertile and well-drained.
