Acer palmatum 'Oridono-nishiki' is a Japanese Maple noted for its incredible diversity of colour and variegation. The name means 'multi-coloured tapestry of the master' and through the seasons you can certianly see why.
When the foliage emerges in spring it can be a variegated leaf with pink, cream and green, that gradually becomes more green through summer. However, when autumn arrives, the foliage takes on multiple colourations even within the same leaf, producing flushes of crimson, gold, copper, pink and green, all blending into an extraordinarily beautiful tapestry-like display across the tree.
Japanese Maple 'Oridono-nishiki', with its wonderful and unusual variegated colouration can bring an abundance of seasonal interest to your outdoor space. If possible, place it in a position where you can enjoy it when spending time both outside and inside, to really appreciate what this beautiful Acer has to offer. It will grow happily in a large container for many years or planted in pride of place in the garden.
Plant Acer palmatum 'Oridono-nishiki' in a sheltered location away from cold winds and strong sun, preferably in a slightly shaded area. It prefers soil that is slightly on the acidic side but always moist, fertile and well-drained.
